Why APC is afraid of Presidential debate by Reno Omokri and Reuben Okupe

Reno Omokri is Special assistant to President Jonathan on New Media, while Doyin Okupe is the Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Jonathan, both of them took to social media to mock APC for not participating in presidential debate. Okupe's tweet below:

Reno's reason below:

Buhari will not participate in Febuary presidential debate

The presidential debate between PDP and APC is scheduled to hold on Febuary 6th, but APC released a statement that their candidate will not participate, according to them, the organisers of the debate which is Broadcast Organisation of Nigeria (BON) has "unhidden bias and campaign of calumny by some key organisers of the programme, against the corporate political interest of the party (APC) and its candidates”.

There full statement below:

“A cursory inspection of the composition of NEGD brings into focus the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), National Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and the Africa Independent Television (AIT, owned by a PDP chieftain). And going by the avalanche of inflammatory statements, misinformation and blatant lies being propagated by some of these media against our Party and candidates contrary to the Kofi Annan brokered Abuja Peace Accord, and the failure of these aggressors to desist and apologise, have left the APC Campaign with no option than to steer clear of any premeditated smear campaign that could be inimical to our prospective electoral success,” .

Update on John Kerry's Visit to Nigeria, State House Press Release

Statement by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Regarding Meeting With U.S. Secretary of State John F. Kerry

It was a pleasure to welcome Secretary John Kerry to Nigeria.  We had a candid and constructive discussion about a broad range of issues.
Nigeria is a vibrant democracy and the largest trading partner of the United States in Africa, with more than $18 billion in bilateral trade.  Our countries and peoples share a mutual admiration for each other and a deep commitment to freedom, democracy, and human rights.

This is why we are together engaged in a struggle against a common enemy that promotes terror, fear, division, and violates human rights, most especially of women and girls, with complete impunity.  Winning the fight against Boko Haram in Nigeria and West Africa is absolutely essential to beat back the tide of religious extremism around the world.
Our security forces have been working tirelessly and courageously to achieve this goal.  I reaffirmed for Secretary Kerry that Nigeria is strongly committed to building the multinational task force to fight Boko Haram in partnership with Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Benin Republic under the auspices of the Lake Chad Basin Commission.  Indeed, I called publicly for such a regional approach at the African leaders summit in Paris in May 2014 and more recently in multilateral meetings.

We are pleased that the international community is now strongly united behind this initiative and agree that its success is critical. It is equally important that the multinational force receives the significant support that is required to address the threat through our global partners.

The United States, more than any other country in the world, has the most experience fighting armed insurgencies.  And having suffered the devastating attacks of 9/11, its people also understand the insecurity and fear that is the reality for the vast majority of peaceful, tolerant Muslims and Christians in North Eastern Nigeria.

This is why I firmly believe that enhancing and expanding various channels of cooperation between our two countries, in the context of growing international coordination, are of the utmost importance.  I discussed a number of ideas with Secretary Kerry to move such cooperation forward.

We are grateful to the United States for standing with Nigeria and its people in our fight against Boko Haram.  I reaffirmed our strong commitment to working together with the United States to put an end to global terrorism and particularly Boko Haram.  Nigeria will also work to deepen and consolidate our bilateral relationship with the United States.

I emphasized to Secretary Kerry that I am deeply committed to ensuring that our forthcoming election is free, fair, and credible.  It is especially critical that all political parties abide by the Abuja Accord, which commits each to non-violence before, during, and after the election.

I made it absolutely clear that the May 29th handover date is sacrosanct.  In addition, the Government will provide all resources that are required by the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure that the election goes smoothly.  I also emphasized that INEC is an independent body, which makes its own decisions without any interference from the Government.

I know that she will forgive me, because we have suffered together in Lagos. I have a lot of people whom I worked for that currently owe me. My plans were to use the money to send her to the village. Jim Clancy leaves CNN after 34 years

CNN confirmed Jim Clancy has left the network after nearly 34 years while in an email obtained by TVNewser, Clancy made the announcement to colleagues, calling CNN “one of the greatest news organizations in the world” and “a family to my own family.”  Clancy left just after one week he exchange words with pro-Israel activists on Twitter about the terrorist outrages in Paris, in which he derided his opponents as the “hasbara team” and used a derogatory term for disabled people.
CNN, however, made no mention of the scandal as it paid tribute to Clancy’s 34 years of service with the channel. “Jim Clancy is no longer with CNN. We thank him for more than three decades of distinguished service, and wish him nothing but the best,” a CNN spokesperson said.

In a short statement, Clancy said: “After nearly 34 years with Cable News Network, the time has come to say Farewell! It has been my honor to work alongside all of you for all of these years. This is one of the greatest news organizations in the world. It has truly revolutionized information delivery while driving technological advances in how we gather the news. Through it all, CNN has been a family to my own family. That means something. As I reflect on all of the great adventures and achievements of the past, I wish you great success in the future.”

The anchor’s departure follows yesterday’s revelation that his Twitter account had been deactivated. In his clash with pro-Israel advocates, Clancy – whose obsession with Israeli settlement policy is well-known among CNN viewers – angrily responded to one of his detractors with the word, “Hasbara?” (“Hasbara,” the Hebrew word for “explaining,” is often invoked by Israel’s opponents to dismiss views with which they disagree, even when, as in this case, the matter at hand has nothing to do with Israel.)

As his ire rose, Clancy dismissed another user by saying, “Get a grip, junior. It’s my Friday night. You and the Hasbara team need to pick on some cripple on the edge of the herd.”

Jay Ruderman, the head of the Ruderman Family Foundation, which promotes the inclusion of people with disabilities in the Jewish community, informed Clancy on Twitter that the word “cripple” is derogatory. The anchor’s response was to block both Ruderman’s personal account and the account of the Ruderman Foundation.

Some youths burn down President Jonathan's campaign bus in plateau state

Some frustrated youths yesterday in plateau state burnt down the presidents campaign bus, my question is, why can't our youth shun violence? Burning the bus is it solving any problem? Nigerian youths should not accept to be used as a thug or whatsoever by any political party in February 14th election.

SOS as a retired police officer turned traditional ruler accuses subjects of witchcraft

This is a story from Chukwudi Iwuchukwu, a lawyer and blogger. Chukwudi tweets from @Chukwudi1985. According to Chukwudi, this has been happening in Unadi community in Enugu State.

The traditional ruler of Unadu community In Nsukka Enugu State  a retired police officer, Barnabas Agbaji who allegedly forced himself to become the Igwe (chief) of the town recently elevated the act of wickedness by allegedly arresting" two of his subjects Remigus Nwa Ikeagwu and Silas Ameh, arbitrarily accused them of witchcraft, reportedly convicted the accused of being guilty of the offence of Witchcraft, hung a tire around their necks, tied fresh palm fronds all over their bodies and paraded them around the community as common criminals!!

According to a source in the community, the Traditional Ruler has been ruling the town with high handedness and impunity, leaving his subjects in fear and misery, boasting that nothing will happen to him because of his Influence in Enugu state Government.
Tension is already running high in the community and from my investigation, his people are spoiling for war, threatening fire and brimstone  if appropriate action is not taken against the ex-policeman now Traditional Ruler  and some of his subjects are calling for his dethronement because his recent bizarre action on his subjects is the height of what they can tolerate.
The question is: During his service years in the Nigerian police, did this man ever arrest and successfully prosecute anyone for practicing witchcraft? Under which law did he do this?

Two brothers involve in Paris shotting dead, third hostage taker killed with four civilians believe to have died

Manhunt for the two brothers that killed 12 people yesterday 8th January, Charlie Hebdo journalists and police officers has come to an end.

                                           Cherif & Said  Kouachi

According to daily Mail: Said and Cherif Kouachi, the brothers who had assassinated 12 people at satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, died in a blaze of gunfire at a printworks near Paris where they had been holed up with one hostage, who survived.
Moments later, dozens of commandos stormed a Jewish grocery 25 miles away in east Paris where accomplice Amedey Coulibaly was threatening to kill a number of terrified people including women and children.
The 32-year-old, responsible for the death of a woman police officer on Thursday, was also ‘neutralised’ in the assault. Tragically, four hostages were killed while another five were badly wounded.
There were reports tonight that another gunman had escaped the scene.
Coulibay is thought to have been working with his 'armed and dangerous' girlfriend Hayat Boumeddiene, whose whereabouts is unknown.

Dozens of police then pursued the brothers along the National 2 highway, ending in Dammartin-en-Goele, close to the area where the huge manhunt had been focused on a forest overnight.
They escaped on foot with a hostage into a small printing business named Creating Trend Discovery, just before 10am (9am GMT).  Residents were warned on the town's official website to stay indoors and pupils were being kept  inside school.

22 year Nigerian student died in Georgia police custody, family demands answers .

Mathew Ajibade, a 22 year old collage student studying computer science who died in police cell.
According to CNN:
Two sheriff's deputies in Georgia have been placed on leave with pay for "inappropriate actions" in the case of a college student who died in the county jail, a Chatham County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman said.
Cpl. Maxine Evans and Cpl. Jason Kenny will remain on administrative leave until the conclusion of an investigation into the death of Matthew Ajibade, a 22-year-old student from Nigeria who died last week in an isolation cell of the Savannah jail, said Gena Bilbo, the sheriff's spokeswoman.
Authorities provided no further details into the deputies' conduct.
The two deputies couldn't be immediately reached for comment Thursday.

Ajibade, who had bipolar disorder, died in custody after he "became combative during the booking process," the Sheriff's Office alleged.
His family is demanding to know why Ajibade died.

During the alleged jail altercation, three deputies were injured, including a female sergeant who suffered a concussion and broken nose, authorities said.

That description doesn't square with family members' description of the 22-year-old, whom they described as a much-loved "geeky kid."

The Nigeria native was in Savannah studying computer science.

Ajibade's family has hired Mark O'Mara, a CNN legal analyst who once represented George Zimmerman in the death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin.

O'Mara called the disciplinary action against the two deputies as "a good small step in holding people responsible for their actions."

"We still need questions answered how Matthew's life was taken from him," O'Mara added.

The body was released to the family Thursday morning, O'Mara said.

The attorney hopes to see "discourse of all available information as soon as possible," he said.

Ajibade was diagnosed with bipolar disorder three years ago and was having a medical emergency at the time of his arrest and confinement, O'Mara said.
Savannah police arrested Ajibade on January 1 after receiving a call about a domestic disturbance.

When police arrived, they witnessed Ajibade holding a women under a blanket, according to an incident report. Police uncovered the two and noticed that the woman's "face was bruised, and her nose was bleeding," the report says.

Officers ordered Ajibade to release the woman, but he did not comply, the report says, adding that when police tried to arrest Ajibade, he proceeded to "resist apprehension in a violent manner."

He was accused of domestic violence act, battery and obstruction of an officer.

A woman who he identified as his girlfriend tried to inform police of his mental health issues, O'Mara said.

"She also gave police a bottle of his medication," the attorney told CNN.

The police report notes that officers received a prescription bottle from the alleged victim, but the name of the prescription has been redacted.

Once at the jail, officials say, Ajibade had to be restrained, during which he injured the three officers. He was then moved to an isolation cell due to his "dangerous behavior," a police news release says.

Deputies conducted welfare checks on Ajibade and on their second check, he was found nonresponsive, police say. First aid was administered by the jail's medical unit staff. Despite CPR and attempts to restart his heart with a defibrillator, Ajibade could not be revived, according to the release.

It's unclear how much of the event, if any, was captured on the jail's surveillance system, or whether officers conducted a mental health evaluation before Ajibade's death.

County government officials declined CNN requests for an interview, citing the ongoing investigation.

The Sheriff's Office has requested that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation conduct an independent investigation. A GBI spokesperson said an autopsy had been conducted, but that a cause of death was pending toxicology reports.

Jungle justice in Ghana

No matter what, I think people should be giving a second chance or handed over to police for proper prosecution. This man was killed today in Ghana according to Ghana citi fm, because he robbed another man and was caught in the act.

Even in Nigeria, people take laws into their hand on a daily basis, but that's not the option because innocent life are being wasted.
